How Best to prepare for
Competitions...
|
Weekly competition schedules vary. Due to traveling time and the band’s
performance schedule, meals are often taken at odd times of the day.
Concession stands have even run out of food before the end of the
evening. |
| |
|
Do not depend on concessions to buy a
meal. Look over each competition’s itinerary and make plans to pack
food, drink and any additional clothing that might be needed for the
entire day. Parents and students MUST make it THEIR responsibility to
plan for snacks or meals which can withstand travel, temperature, etc.
Remember that space is limited on the buses. |
| |
|
Boosters provide water for the students at the completion of the
performance. |
| |
Every student should bring:
- An insulated cooler or thermos of
water for the trips and make sure they take a good drink before
departing the buses at our destination.
- Money... Students should make
sure they carry their money with them while in uniform. They may
not be allowed to go back to the buses for it. Band uniform jackets
have a small inside pocket for money. Students can also purchase a
hidden travel purse. These work well attached to uniform bib pant
straps or other undergarments.
Suggested snack foods:
- cheese cracker sandwich snacks
bananas carrots pudding cups
- peanut butter cracker sandwich
snacks apples raisins/grapes fruit cups
- shelled sunflower seeds/nuts
breakfast bars power/energy bars trail mix
|
|
Avoid caffeine drinks. Bring water, lemonade, fruit drinks,
etc. No glass bottles. Screw caps preferred. |
| |
|
Avoid chocolate. A gooey mess
results if the buses are even slightly warm. |
| |
Leave Jewelry at HOME...
Students may not wear jewelry while performing - and the buses are
not locked - so there is not a secure place to store valuables. |
Come out and support our kids as they perform! $5 admission is
the norm. If you help chaperone or work with the Pit and Props crews,
you will typically receive a gate pass. If you would like to help,
contact us at CompetitionSupport@nwvikingband.org (otherwise). Cindy
Toler is Student Support Chairperson; you may contact her if you have
any questions.
Students need to
be ready to travel with all required instruments, equipment and
uniform items, including their theme t-shirt and windsuit. Meal
schedules may vary from one competition to the next and sometimes time
is short, so be prepared with healthy snacks and water for the trip
in addition to money for concessions. Students are responsible for
helping load and UNLOAD personal items as well as all other equipment
needed for the show. If they are not riding the bus home, they must
take all belongings including instruments with them, or make advance
arrangements for a friend to unload these items on his/her behalf!!!
Please Note: If
your child will leave with you (or other family) instead of riding
the bus back to the school, they should bring a note signed by a
parent and give it to the lead chaperone on their bus before we
leave the school that day. If plans are last minute, parents are
asked to speak in person with the bus chaperone to inform us of your
plans. The safety of our students is our first priority and
we want to account for every person’s presence before we leave for
home. These steps help us simplify and reduce the chaos of
accounting for 123 + students at the end of sometimes VERY long
days! Thanks for your cooperation in this!
