Booster Board

Chris U pic.jpg

Hi!  My name is Christine Uhrlass and I am excited to be your Band Booster President.

This will be my 7 year as a Band Mom and I cannot share how much of an amazing journey it has been with my children and myself.   My oldest daughter, Emma is presently attending UNC Chapel Hill as a Junior after completing 4 years in the Marching Band as a percussionist.  My son, Sam is a Junior playing both Tenor & Bari saxophone. Both of my kids have been involved with Marching Band, Class Bands, Winter Percussion, & Jazz ensemble.

When not involved with the Band Boosters I enjoy traveling, baking, gardening & being a preschool teacher.

My best advise to any new parents is try not to get to overwhelmed.   It can seem like a lot at first for both you and your student, but the lessons your child will learn will serve them well beyond their years in band.   If you ever have questions, ask a vet parent!   We have all been new once.   Enjoy you new endeavor as a Band Parent and welcome!

Hi, I'm Lisa Christensen, and will serve as secretary for the next two years. I am originally from Ohio, but have been in NC most of my life. My husband is also a mid-Westerner.

During the day, I'm a recruiter for a market research company. On evenings/weekends, I get a thrill every time our band steps onto the field, band plays a concert, or the school's chorus sings.

My son, Will, plays clarinet and is a rising sophomore. My daughter is part of the 2020 graduating class, her voice her instrument of choice.

I am a total plant geek, enjoy making greeting cards and other fun things out of paper, and love music in many forms. I'm looking forward to meeting you, and helping in whatever way I can!

Treasurer - Mark Baker  Contact Our Treasurer

Hi, my name is Mark Baker and I will be serving as Treasurer of the Band Boosters for the 2021-22 school year. This is my fifth year being involved with the band program and my third year on the Board of Directors. My wife Amy and I have two children, who both participate in the band program: Ben (12th grade, 5th year in the Marching Band and WPE) and Emma (10th grade, 4rd year in the Marching Band and WPE). They have both enjoyed music from an early age and have been taking piano lessons since they were in the 1st grade.

Currently, Ben plays in the Front Ensemble and Emma plays the flute.

Amy and I grew up in small towns near Winston-Salem, we currently live in Oak Ridge and I work as a tax accountant in Greensboro. Outside of family, work and band, I love to watch college basketball and NFL football. In addition, I have volunteered at the Wyndham Championship, the local PGA tournament, for over 20 years and have served various roles on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Piedmont since 1997.

I am excited to be a part of the Band Boosters and I look forward to seeing you at the next band event.

My name is Jon Goldin and I am serving as your Budget Director of the Band Boosters for the 2020-2021 school year.  This is my fourth year as a band parent where I worked with the Props Team and this is my first year being a member on the Board of Directors.  My wife Jenn and I have two children, both members of the Color Guard in Marching Band and Winter Color Guard.  Both children play instruments for the Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band.  They are passionate about being a part of the band and the extended family that we have gained.

We moved from Long Island, New York to the Greensboro area 14 years ago.  It has been the best decision we have made!  I am currently working at Arch MI as the Director of Accounting & Financial Systems and along with my experience in public accounting, look to serve our Board and Community.  My passions outside of Family and work are studying Tae Kwon Do with my son, and challenging myself with weight training, Spartan races, and MMA.

Ways & Means -  Jennifer Goldin   Contact Ways & Means

Hello!!! My name is Jennifer Goldin.  My husband and I moved our family down to North Carolina from New York, back in 2005.  I am a teacher and had nine years of teaching elementary education when we moved down to North Carolina.   I began working for Guilford County in the 2005-2006 school year at Oak Ridge Elementary School.  I taught 5th grade for five years and the Academically Gifted in math for another five years.  After ten years of teaching at Oak Ridge, I was then presented with an opportunity to teach Middle School math at the Our Lady of Grace Catholic School, in Greensboro.  After three years, I was offered the opportunity to work closer to home and be a staff member here at Northwest Guilford High School as a math teacher.

Both of my children have been involved in the Marching Band Program, as members of the color guard.  My daughter was a member of the guard during marching band, as well as on the winter guard, for her four years at NW.  She just graduated this past June and will be attending Clemson University.  Our son, Ryan is a Senior this year and is in his fourth year on the guard for marching band and winter guard.  Our daughter participated in Class bands during her time at NW playing the clarinet for Mr. McMath’s Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. Our son, Ryan, plays the trumpet for Mr. McMath in the Symphonic Band and Jazz Band.

My husband and I have enjoyed working on props for both marching band as well as winter guard seasons. We have created a lifetime of friendships by participating within the band program.  We are so blessed to be part of this Viking Band Family!   This will be our 5th season as part of the marching band program.

I am looking forward to working with Lydia Kirkman on the Ways and Means Committee, creating fun opportunities to help fundraise for our amazing music program here at Northwest.

Hello, I’m Alfred Martin and I will be your Fall Festival Chairperson for the next 2 years. This is my fourth year as a band parent and have been volunteering at the Fall festival for the past couple of years.

My son is a rising Junior and has been part of the marching band, symphonic band and wind ensemble. He plays Bass 2 , Tenors and drums.

For me and my family marching band came as a blessing when we moved from India in 2017. We have made friends for life and have experienced love, care and support from all in the band. It is truly a band family.

I am hoping my experience in organizing events in the scale of fall festival in India will come in handy. With the support of the band family, I am looking forward to wonderful seasons ahead.

Competition Support - Heather Tucker   Contact Competition Support

Hello, my name is Heather Tucker. I grew up in Memphis, TN. There I developed my love of all things marching band. I played clarinet, spun with the color guard, was drum major and an instructor. I attended UT-Knoxville for 2 years before transferring to UNC-Chapel Hill for pharmacy school.

My husband, Thad, and I have 2 daughters, Conner who is a Junior in college and Peyton who is a Junior at Northwest. Conner played clarinet and was Drum Major. Peyton played flute and was in the color guard.

I have been an active band booster for 6 years. This program is amazing. My kids have learned a lot about responsibility, teamwork, dedication and had fun along the way. I encourage all family members to take every opportunity to volunteer. It takes a small army behind the scenes to help our kids have a successful season. Please do not hesitate to ask if there is something I can do to help.

Hello, my name is Harry Keller and I'm happy to serve as the Logistics Director for the 2021-2022 Viking Band. I am originally from Pennsylvania, and our family moved to North Carolina in 2009.
My wife Erica and I both grew up in band, and knowing all of the great benefits, we encouraged all of our children to get involved in music as well.  Maya plays clarinet, and graduated from NW Guilford HS in 2021.  Eli is a Junior and plays alto and bari saxophone. Owen is in 8th grade, plays trumpet, and is starting to play French horn. I have been involved with the band program since 2017 by helping with props and driving equipment trucks. I work as an engineer at Volvo Trucks. In my free time, I enjoy woodworking and cycling.

I have played percussion since I was 10, and have performed with the Penn State Blue Band and the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps. Seeing my children performing and growing with music has been a very rewarding experience, and I am very thankful that they are part of the NW Guilford program!
