Winter Ensembles
During the winter season, our band program continues its commitment to excellence through specialized indoor performance groups. We offer a Winter Guard and Winter Percussion Ensemble. These programs provide students the opportunity to further develop their performance skills in a competitive setting beyond the traditional marching season.
Winter Guard
Winter Guard is an ensemble of young men and women who compete within the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) circuit as well as the Winter Guard International (WGI) circuit.
This group is audition based and typically there are at least two competitive ensembles: JV Guard and Varsity Guard.
These ensembles perform at AIA competitions, Varsity competes at WGI Regionals and World Championships in Dayton Ohio.
The Varsity team was was a semi-finalist at WGI World Championships and second place for AIA Championships in 2025.

Winter Percussion
Ensemble
Winter Percussion Ensemble (WPE) is an ensemble of young men and women who compete in the local Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA) performing on all marching percussion equipment (drumline) and front ensemble instruments.
This group is audition based and anyone may audition. It is also open to any Guilford County Schools student in good standing within their districted band program.
This ensemble competes at three or four local competitions as well as AIA Championships.
