
Kathryn Martin

Kathryn Martin is the Band Director at Kernodle Middle School located in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is passionate about music education and providing students with a well-rounded experience in the band program. In her time at Kernodle, the bands have flourished, with students being represented at All-County, District, and State events and earning exceptional ratings at district adjudication and regional festivals.
Ms. Martin was a finalist for Guilford County Schools Rookie Teacher of the Year in 2023, as well as the Kernodle Middle School Rookie Teacher of the Year. Her professional affiliations include the North Carolina Music Educators Association, NC Bandmasters, Women Band Directors International, and the National Association for Music Education. Ms. Martin serves at the state MPA committee representative and All-District Clinic Chair for the Central Bandmasters District.
She graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Music in Music Education. While at UK, Ms. Martin studied clarinet with Dr. Scott Wright and conducting with Dr. Michael Hudson and Dr. Shayna Stahl. She was also a member of the UK Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, and the Wildcat Marching Band.
In her spare time, Ms. Martin enjoys spending time with her husband Ryan and her cat Pinto. She also enjoys reading, playing piano, and trying local coffee shops.
